The mission of the Matagorda County Museum is to collect, to preserve and to protect the county’s cultural heritage. Through exhibition and development of educational programming we make the museum a cultural experience and destination. The museum is one of the seven La Salle Odyssey museums selected to tell the tragic story of La Salle's expedition. The Matagorda County Museum's focus is primarily on the excavation of La Salle's ship "La Belle".
