Driving is permitted on South Padre Island from Access Rd 5 north. From the access road to the Port Mansfield jetties there is more than 28 miles of Gulf beach. This beach may require the use of a four-wheel drive vehicle. Even though it is not legal, secluded areas are sometimes frequented by clothing optional beachgoers.
