Just north of the Matagorda Bay Nature Park, is 20 miles of undeveloped Gulf beach on the Matagorda Peninsula. After the first couple of miles, the sand on this beach can get fairly soft and deep. A four-wheel drive vehicle may be required.
A $10 permit is required for vehicles entering the beach. The permits can be purchased from local merchants.
Access to this beach is by taking FM 2031 from Matagorda to the end of the road. Webcam images may be completely dark at night.
