The CCA/CPL Marine Development Center in Corpus Christi is the first state operated hatchery and visitor center, and is one of the best kept secrets in Texas. The hatchery produces juvenile (30 millimeter) red drum and spotted seatrout for releasing into Texas bays for stock enhancement.

The center releases between 25 million and 30 million tiny redfish annually and between 3 and 5 million speckled trout. They are working on a program to release 1 million three- to four-inch southern flounder a year.

Schedule a tour to learn more about hatchery operations. Tour times are M-F at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and Sat at 2:00 p.m. Tours of the hatchery last approximately one hour and are available by appointment only. Please call (361) 939-7784 or e-mail deborah.grime@tpwd.state.tx.us. Admission is free, donations are accepted.
