Description: The Gag Grouper is brownish gray with dark mottled markings on their sides. Their fins are dark with the anal and caudal fins having a white margin. The tail is slightly concave. 10-20 pound fish are common with the record being 80 lbs 6 oz. They are protogynous hermaphrodites, schooling in harems with the most aggressive and largest females shifting sex to male. They may be found on & around a structured bottom. They are considered excellent table fare.
