Scientific Name: Lutjanus griseus
Common Name: Grey Snapper, Black Snapper, Mango Snapper, Cabellerote
 

Description: Mangrove Snapper are typically greyish red, but can change color from bright red to coppery red. It has a dark stripe running through its eye if you look at it from the top when it is underwater. Its size ranges from 2-6 pounds but many biologists have now confirmed that a 29.5 pound Mangrove Snapper was speared off of the coast of Louisiana.

Mangrove Snapper inhabit coastal as well as offshore waters. They are found around coral reefs, rocky areas, docks & piers, estuaries, mangrove areas, and sometimes in lower reaches of rivers

Mangrove Snapper are considered excellent table fare.
