Scientific Name: Archosargus probatocephalus
Common Name: Sheepshead
 
Description: Silver with 5 or 6 distinct vertical black bands on the sides, protruding teeth from the upper and lower jaw. Found inshore around seawalls, jetties, navigation markers, and oyster reefs. Spawning occurs in winter and early spring. Sheepshead feed on snails, fiddler crabs, and barnacles. Take limits: Daily bag limit is 5 fish of 14 inches or greater in length. Special Regulation: Beginning on Sept. 1, 2008, the length limit will be 14 inches. Beginning on Sept. 1, 2009 the length limit will be 15 inches.
